We welcome any students who are interested in learning and getting practical experience at our atelier couture. The internship is structured so that you have the opportunity to “try out” on the job and determine if it is the right choice for you. You will experience the business administration as well as couture work. The program is 6 weeks with one mid-term evaluation. You are expected to facilitate day-to-day operations and will be assessed for potential hire or future collaboration.
On the business administrative side, you will interact directly with clients to write up work order and organize the couture work in the order that is received. For the couture work, the first 3 weeks will primarily focus on preparatory work such as ironing, cutting, and pinning tissues for sewing. After the mid-term evaluation, you have a choice to work on commission or to receive guidance on your personal project.
Mini Projects
During the first 3 weeks, you will have 2 mini projects to demonstrate your skills. The first project is to custom tailor a fabric mask for yourself which will help demonstrate the level of precision in your couture work. The second is a patchwork project. You can choose anything from a pencil case, tote bag to a patchwork dress – if you are feeling ambitious.
I am here to help you and these little things you do will help me understand your needs better. Feel free to explore. There is no right or wrong. There are only rooms for improvement.
The second half or the internship, you can choose any project you wish to pursue. Although, I strongly recommend a project that you think you can finish within three weeks while facilitating the day-to-day operations of our atelier
